Job Title:
Business Continuity and Cyber Incident Recovery Specialist

Reports to: Senior Manager, Strategy & Transformation

Purpose of the Role

The Business Continuity & Cyber Incident Specialist supports the evolution and expansion of LifeLabs’ enterprise Business Continuity Program, with a focus on integrating Cyber Incident Recovery across the organization. This role is responsible for refreshing and enhancing Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), while developing and maintaining an overarching Cyber Incident Recovery (CIR) framework. The Specialist will help establish a cohesive, enterprise-wide program that is scalable, sustainable, and effective in a steady-state environment.

This is a hybrid role, combining remote work with in-office presence based on business needs and LifeLabs policies.

Your responsibilities will include:

Business Impact Analysis (BIA) Refresh

  • Review, validate, and update Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) to accurately reflect current operations, leveraging standardized templates and metrics.
  • Ensure BIAs capture critical third-party and supplier dependencies, particularly in scenarios where technology is unavailable.
  • Map end-to-end business processes, including applications, infrastructure, and alternate workflows, to assess operational impacts.
  • Incorporate technology outage and cyber incident scenarios into BIAs, including prolonged and large-scale disruptions.
  • Develop clear, consistent BIA documentation that directly informs Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) and supports senior leadership decision-making.

Business Continuity Plan (BCP) Updates

  • Update and enhance Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) using refreshed BIA data and stakeholder input.
  • Integrate third-party dependencies, alternate workflows, and strategies to support extended outages (30+ days).
  • Ensure BCPs comprehensively address dependencies across technology, data, people, locations, and vendors.
  • Document clear continuity strategies and recovery workflows to support prolonged disruptions and cyber incident scenarios.
  • Structure and maintain continuity data in standardized formats (advanced Excel required); experience with Power BI or Tableau is considered an asset.

Enterprise BCP for Cyber Incident Recovery

  • Consolidate updated BIAs and BCPs into a unified, enterprise-wide Business Continuity and Cyber Incident Recovery framework.
  • Document cross-functional dependencies, recovery sequencing, and escalation pathways to enable a coordinated response and recovery.
  • Develop a practical, actionable Cyber Incident Recovery (CIR) plan in collaboration with Technology, Cybersecurity, and business stakeholders, integrating recovery inputs into a clear playbook.
  • Prepare concise, executive-ready materials to support leadership review, oversight, and decision-making on continuity and recovery plans; this role provides recommendations and insights but does not hold approval authority.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and support business continuity and cyber incident recovery workshops, interviews, tabletop exercises, and working sessions.
  • Contribute to reporting, documentation updates, dependency mapping, and continuous improvement of frameworks and templates.
  • Participate in continuity and cyber incident testing and exercises, including post-incident reviews and lessons learned activities.
  • Provide support on enterprise resiliency and continuity initiatives, adapting to evolving priorities and emerging needs.
  • Provide ad hoc support to incident management activities as a facilitator or coordinator when required, without direct ownership of incident response; may include after-hours support during critical incidents.

What you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Information Technology, Risk Management, Emergency Management, or a related discipline; exposure to or experience in a healthcare environment is considered an asset.
  • Business Continuity certifications such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), or Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) are an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Business Continuity, Operational Resilience, Cyber/IT Incident Management, or related disciplines, with exposure to Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs).
  • Experience supporting continuity or incident response initiatives, including documentation, data gathering, and coordination of meetings or activities.
  • Hands-on experience developing and reviewing Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs).
  • Experience identifying and mapping dependencies across business processes, including technology systems and third-party relationships.
  • Experience planning for operational disruptions, including technology outages and cyber incident scenarios.
  • Strong writing and documentation skills, with the ability to develop clear, practical, and actionable plans.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across business and technology teams.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, structured, and user-friendly deliverables.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, particularly Excel and Word.
