Overview

At KPMG, you’ll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solvers, connected by a common cause: turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.

Our Indirect Tax group offers a full range of planning and compliance advice with respect to GST/HST, QST, provincial sales taxes (PST), property transfer taxes, excise taxes, fuel and carbon taxes, and other indirect taxes levied by the provincial and federal governments in Canada. We help our clients ensure that they are meeting their obligations in all relevant jurisdictions and that they are making the most of any tax planning and refund opportunities. We also assist our clients in the context of indirect tax audits and appeals.

As a member of the Indirect Tax practice, you will work closely with KPMG Partners, Senior Managers and other team members in our Financial Services compliance line. As part of the engagement team, the Technician will excel in servicing the planning and compliance needs of our clients in the financial services sector. This position provides the opportunity to participate in a broad range of indirect tax-related work requiring data analysis, assessment, and quantification.

What you will do

  • Prepare and support the review of indirect tax returns, including GST/HST and QST, for financial services clients.
  • Perform data analysis and reconciliation to support indirect tax compliance using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Alteryx and other analytics platforms.
  • Assist Senior Managers and Managers in the execution of indirect tax compliance activities, particularly during peak filing periods.
  • Support the use and maintenance of technologyenabled compliance tools and processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through data analysis, automation, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with onshore team members to resolve issues and meet regulatory deadlines.

What you bring to the role

  • 1–2 years of experience in data analytics, finance, accounting, technology, or a related field.
  • Degree in data analytics or a related discipline.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Alteryx as well as comfort working with large datasets.
  • Experience with data and automation tools (e.g., Power Query, Python, Power BI, or Power Automate) is an asset, not a requirement.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadlinedriven environment.
  • High level of initiative, attention to detail, and willingness to be handson.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a teambased environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflicting demands and priorities.
  • High level of drive, enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and meaningfully contribute towards attaining team goals.
