The Newmarket office plays a key role in supporting clients throughout York Region and continues to grow alongside expanding lawyer headcount. The firm promotes a collaborative and professional culture grounded in accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
About The Opportunity
Due to both firm growth and a current leave of absence, our client is proactively adding an experienced Family Law Clerk to support increasing workflow demands. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside established family lawyers while contributing meaningfully to active litigation and negotiated matters.
The successful candidate will join a strong law clerk team and receive mentorship from a Lead Law Clerk while maintaining ownership over assigned files. This position provides stability, exposure to complex family law matters, and performance-based bonus potential tied to billable achievements.
About The Position
The role involves managing day-to-day file progression for both in-court and out-of-court matters while ensuring deadlines and urgent priorities are effectively managed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing pleadings, financial statements, court forms, and correspondence
- Managing and organizing family law files from intake through resolution
- Coordinating court filings and deadlines
- Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and court offices
- Supporting lawyers with trial preparation and case management
The Requirements
Must-Haves
- Minimum 3+ years of Family Law Clerk experience
- Strong knowledge of Ontario family law procedures and court processes
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to independently manage competing deadlines and files
Assets
- Experience working within York Region or familiarity with the Newmarket courts
- Comfort using modern legal technology and practice management systems
- Collaborative, client-focused approach
Compensation
- Salary range: $65,000 - $70,000, plus performance bonus
