Job Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, with a focus on donation processing, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate financial records. Reporting to the Controller, this role ensures compliance with accounting standards, supports budgeting and audits, and provides leadership to the Donations Team.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and super
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting donation operations, including donations processing, general ledger activities, donor data entry, financial records, donation reporting and transaction verification.
  • Ensure the accuracy of financial records by verifying transactions, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring accounts are balanced and up to date.
  • Manage and lead the Donations Team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Accurately input and review financial data in accounting systems and spreadsheets, and support the preparation of financial reports, reconciliations, and monthly/quarterly closings.
  • Process and review invoices and related financial documents, ensuring accurate coding, approvals, and timely recording.
  • Monitor compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements; maintain and update policies as needed.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, cost-saving opportunities, and financial risks, providing insights and forecasts to support senior leadership decision-making.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation and coordinating responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial information and alignment on budgeting and planning.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and performance evaluations to accounting staff, promoting continuous learning and development.
  • Support the finance team with various accounting projects, and contribute to month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting workflows and operational efficiencies
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or managerial roles.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward certification is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, accounts payable, and donation processing in a non-profit or fund-based environment is an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
