Job Description:
Join Sun Life as the Head of First Line Oversight Programs, where you'll lead a high-performing team responsible for compliance and market conduct oversight across our Canadian Retail Advice and Solutions business, which includes wealth and insurance.
Reporting to the Vice President of Business Governance & Controls, you'll oversee first-line supervision of advisors across multiple distribution channels-face-to-face, hybrid, and third-party -ensuring we protect our advisors’ and our business while delivering on our Client-first vision.
This is a strategic leadership opportunity to shape our oversight programs with an advisor- and client-centric lens, drive digital transformation, and grow our culture of excellence across the team. .
What will you do?
Strategic Oversight & Governance
Design, enhance, and scale first-line oversight operating models that meet regulatory requirements and industry standards while unlocking capacity for our advisors to service our Clients
Establish a center of expertise on compliance issues, partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure consistency across all distribution channels
Proactively identify and address compliance risks, audit findings, and advisor behavior trends
Team Leadership & Development
Build and lead a specialized team of compliance experts in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
Develop future leaders through coaching, mentoring, and strategic talent management
Foster an inclusive culture aligned with Sun Life's BOLDER values and "One Sun Life" vision
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Leverage data and analytics to enhance program performance and identify capability gaps
Support key business initiatives by bringing first line compliance expertise to enterprise projects
Collaborate with field management, Risk, and Compliance to maintain operational excellence and improve the advisor and client experience
What do you need to succeed?
University degree with 10+ years of progressive financial services experience
Deep knowledge of securities, mutual funds, and insurance regulations in an OSFI-regulated environment; strong understanding of three lines of defense governance models
Proven track record in compliance, market conduct, and/or first-line oversight roles -
Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or Canadian Investment Funds Course (CIFC) with corresponding Branch Managers' exam would be a strong asset
OPD or PDO certification would be a strong asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
