Senior IP Network Designer

As part of the IP Engineering team, the Senior IP Network Designer will be responsible for the design and architectural evolution of the Xplore Access & Aggregation networks.
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Access & Aggregation Engineering in Markham, Ontario.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design and implement a best-in-class access and aggregation architecture maximizing performance for our customers and minimizing operational cost
• Stay current with industry best practices and emerging trends for service provider aggregation and access technologies
• Research new architectures, technologies, vendors and features
• Develop tools for measurement, analysis and optimization of network performance
• Create and execute detailed lab test plans for new architectures, technologies, vendors and features
• Work with different internal teams in identifying capacity requirements and turning them into plans for capacity upgrades and network configurations
• Create Engineering Work Order (EWO), Methods of Procedure (MOP) and other Process documentation as required by Field Engineering, IP Operations and NOC to install and operate new deployments
• Provide training to Field Operations, IP Operations and NOC for new services and features
• Prepare and deliver presentations for internal and external stake holders
• Provide third level problem escalation support

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Minimum 8 years of aggregation/access architecture design experience in a service provider environment
• Extensive knowledge of internet delivery architectures with an in-depth understanding of the technical and budgetary implications and trade-offs associated with design decisions made at all network layers
• In depth knowledge of typical Service Provider Ethernet service offerings
• In depth knowledge of switching technologies such as VLANs, QinQ and Spanning Tree
• Knowledge of IP routing technologies such as BGP and OSPF
• Knowledge of IP/Ethernet Quality of Service features such as classification, marking, queueing and shaping
• Knowledge of networking equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Ciena, Juniper, Adva
• Knowledge of Metro Ethernet Forum standards
• Knowledge of MPLS/SR and MPLS L2/L3 VPNs
• Knowledge of FTTP/XGSPON/GPON, 5G, LTE and Pt2Pt Microwave backhaul systems
• Knowledge of IP/Ethernet performance management features such CFM, Y.1731, TWAMP or Cisco IPSLA
• Good written and verbal English communication
• Good computer skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft products including Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Excel
• Knowledge of Python, Netconf and Restful APIs is an asset
• Engineering Degree (Electrical or Computer Science) or Technologist Diploma or equivalent experience.
• Willingness to undertake occasional travel
