The Physician Assistant (PA) will be based on-site at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and function within the RMP and provide patient care in a team setting, primarily in ambulatory clinics during weekday daytime clinical hours. Under the guidance and supervision of staff radiation oncologists, the PA will provide patient assessments, investigations, symptom management, and follow up care for select high volume services within the Radiation Oncology department, for both newly diagnosed oncology patients, and those undergoing a course of radiation treatment. The PA will join tumour site-based teams with focus in the genitourinary and gynecologic disease sites (and other tumour diseases, depending on clinical volumes), with focus on improving and enhancing the access to care, the quality of care, and radiation therapy related symptom management for patients undergoing radiation treatment. The PA will be offered training and educational opportunities both at orientation and also at an ongoing basis. This role is to cover an existing member of the department who is going on a parental leave.

Principal responsibilities include utilizing and demonstrating a theoretical knowledge and advanced level of clinical competence and excellence in caring for Radiation Oncology patients. This involves collecting and interpreting data about the health of patients, symptom management, developing a medical diagnosis and management plan - in a team environment, under the supervision and guidance of a staff radiation oncologist. The PA will interpret patient findings, radiology studies and use this knowledge to deliver high-quality care for oncology patients. The PA will play a vital role on the interprofessional team and will have opportunity to participate in quality improvement, research and administrative responsibilities. The PA will interact with other team members including a team of staff radiation oncologists, other PAs, medical trainees (residents and fellows), nurses, radiation technologists, physicists, and other clinical and allied health staff both within RMP and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The PA will perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
