Job Description:
The Manager, Total Rewards is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and administration of SHN’s Total Rewards programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and healthcare sector best practices. Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, HR Systems & People Analytics, this role ensures compensation, benefits, and recognition programs are equitable, competitive, and compliant with applicable legislation and collective agreements. The Manager acts as a strategic advisor to HR leadership and management on Total Rewards strategies to attract, retain, and engage top talent. This role is responsible for overseeing vendor relationships and ensuring efficient delivery of Total Rewards programs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and administration of SHN’s Total Rewards programs (compensation, benefits, recognition, perks)
- Benchmark programs against industry standards to ensure competitiveness, equity, and compliance with legislation and collective agreements
- Partner with HR and leadership to align rewards strategies with organizational goals, workforce planning, and budget priorities
- Conduct market research, manage wage rate adjustments, and oversee compensation benchmarking across the hospital sector
- Administer benefit programs, contracts, renewals, and vendor relationships; audit plans to ensure accuracy and alignment
- Lead and coach Total Rewards Specialists, setting objectives, fostering continuous improvement, and building team capacity
- Develop communication strategies to enhance employee understanding and engagement with rewards offerings
- Manage voluntary perks programs, assess effectiveness, and build partnerships to support employee well-being
- Provide strategic advice to HR leadership on compensation and benefits to attract and retain talent
- Collaborate with Finance, Payroll, and HRIS teams to ensure seamless integration of rewards processes
- Monitor workforce data and market trends to identify opportunities for program enhancements and innovation
- Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion in the design and delivery of total rewards programs
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- CHRP designation required; CEBS or CCP certification strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of recent HR experience in a unionized environment, with a focus on compensation and benefits.
- At least 3 years of leadership experience managing HR teams or programs.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing total rewards strategies in complex organizations.
- Superior proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and HRIS systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data, compensation surveys, and workforce metrics.
- Experience with pay equity planning, collective agreement interpretation, and compliance with employment legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and empower a team of HR professionals.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to facilitate discussions, negotiate outcomes, and de-escalate complex situations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership, managers, and cross-functional partners.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to align total rewards programs to organizational goals and budget priorities.
- Highly customer service oriented, with a focus on creating a positive employee experience.
- Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize workload and manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Adaptable problem-solver who can respond to changing organizational needs with innovative solutions.
- Excellent attendance and work performance record
