Job Description:
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director, Laboratory Services, the Manager, Laboratory Services, provides leadership in the Laboratory, to facilitate the delivery of quality patient focused care and the provision of a safe working environment for staff. The Laboratory Manager is accountable for effective daily operations as well as for the efficient and effective utilization of approved financial, human and material resources. As a conceptual thinker, the Manager will support the planning and achievement of organizational goals and strategies, as well as assess and implement industry-wide best practices. As a leader with integrity, he/she will be responsible for promoting trust, and bring the best out in staff. The incumbent will be an important resource to Patient Safety, Risk Management and Quality Improvement to meet regulatory, accreditation and hospital standards.
Responsibilities:
Key accountabilities include: planning, preparing, and managing of annual operational strategic plan and budgets, talent recruitment, development & retention, financial and capital resource purchase and maintenance, departmental performance improvement, quality assurance and Lean initiatives, conflict resolution, and the fostering of a positive atmosphere to ensure excellence in quality patient care.
The incumbent must commit to fostering a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff and others, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and legislation, and the code of conduct of the hospital.
Requirements:
• Must have a current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO) and 10 years technical laboratory experience,
• Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related clinical field or ART certification or applicable diploma/certificate in Laboratory Quality Management or Laboratory Management
• Advanced Blood Bank knowledge and skills preferred.
• Must have a minimum three (3) years progressive leadership experience in a hospital setting
• Must have experience in all areas of Laboratory including industry standards and protocol
• Experience working with senior levels of organizations, professional associations and other governing bodies preferred
• Experience working with laboratory automation systems and information technology preferred
• Superior leadership, interpersonal and verbal & written communication skills
• Excellent customer service and presentation skills
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in using information systems and other related technology
• Skilled with computer databases as well as with spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint, Internet searches and Outlook email
• Interest in evaluative research and/or adult education
• Experience with EPIC Beaker preferred
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
• Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
• Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
• Excellent work performance and attendance
