Sunnybrook Research Institute is the research enterprise of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. Research spans three Toronto-based campuses, eight programs and three scientific platforms. Our main aims are to understand and prevent disease, and to develop treatments that enhance and extend life. Our vision is to invent the future of health care. Each year, we conduct about $100 million in research across 500,000 square feet, including in the world’s first Centre for Research in Image-Guided Therapeutics.

 

Summary of Duties:

 

In our molecular diagnostics laboratory, we are looking for a research assistant

 

  • Use bioinformatics tools to design CRISPR guide RNAs for molecular diagnostics
  • Develop Next Generation Sequencing workflow applications for pharmacogenomics
  • Assist medical laboratory technologists in developing standard operation procedures for molecular diagnostics
  • Perform data analysis and prepare for presentations and publications

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Successful completion of 4 years of undergraduate education with an overall GPA higher than 3.9. Previous research experience in method development in molecular diagnostics considered an asset
  • Experience with PacBio Long-read Next Generation Sequencing
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in bioinformatics tools and design of CRISPR guide RNAs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research regulations and guidelines in molecular diagnostics
