Summary of Duties
• To provide a broad range of nursing /patient care services for the Odette Cancer Centre (OCC). Registered Nurses (RNs) who provide care at the Odette Centre OCC are specialized oncology nurses, performing all aspects of patient care processes prescribed by physicians and in compliance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and Division of Oncology Nursing. The Ambulatory Care Oncology Nurse, as an integral member of the interdisciplinary interprofessional team, will participate in the interdisciplinary collaborative clinical management of oncology patients in the ambulatory setting. S/he is accountable for the provision of compassionate and high quality nursing care through the use of evidence-based nursing interventions in compliance with oncology nursing competencies and CNO Standards of pPractice. The ambulatory care oncology nursing services are provided to address physical, emotional, practical, psychological, informational, social, spiritual needsphysical, psychological, social, spiritual and and educational needs of patients and their families.


• The RN will collaborate with the interprofessional team in the management of oncology patients and their families throughout the trajectory of their cancer care to help address and manage physical, emotional, practical, psychological, informational, social, and spiritual needs. The RN is accountable for the provision of compassionate and high quality nursing care through the use utilization of evidence-based nursing assessments and interventions in compliance with oncology nursing competencies and CNO Standards of pPractice. Supporting patients and their families beyond the clinic environment through extensive telephone practice is critical for the supportive management of the patients undergoing cancer treatment and will be a core focus of nursing work within this role.


• Nurses who provide care in the High Dose Radiation setting Brachytherapy suite have additional knowledge, education, and clinical expertise necessary to support patients through the PeriAnesthesia course of care as well as our Operating Room (OR) where they may undergo procedures requiring General and Spinal anaesthesia anaesthetic procedures. Ambulatory Care Oncology Nurses in this area conduct Preoperative screening assessments and teaching through telephone practice prior to the procedure, are present in our OR to support the patient and physician interprofessional team during the anaesthesia phase. The nurseBrachytherapy RN will also be responsible for the assessment, monitoring and care for patients during the immediate post-operative period until they are ready clinically appropriate for discharge or transfer to another unit. The HDR Brachytherapy nurse RN will also provide teaching and counselling with patient/families after their course of treatment in preparation for discharge.

Qualifications/Skills
•    Current registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario 
•    Baccalaureate degree in nursing required
•    Coronary Care 1 required
•    Minimum of 2 years’ experience in recovery room, critical care or emergency nursing required
•    IV insertion skills required
•    Central Venous Access Device certification an asset
•    Experience in Oncology Nursing is strongly preferred
•    Experience in Ambulatory Care Nursing &/or Telepractice preferred
•    Canadian Nurses Association certification as Certified Oncology Nurse CON(C) an asset or must be willing to obtain
•    Must be flexible, adaptable, and have the ability to prioritize
•    Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills necessary
•    Must be able to work well with others and collaborate as a team
•    Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and professional development important
•    Computer literacy and typing required
•    CPR – Basic Provider certification required
