The Focused Ultrasound Laboratory at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. Our laboratory is internationally recognized for pioneering advancements in non-invasive, image-guided therapies using focused ultrasound (FUS). This technology is transforming modern surgery by enabling the treatment of tumours and other conditions without the need for incisions.

Our multidisciplinary team leads cutting-edge research in non-invasive surgery, targeted drug delivery, and neuromodulation. We have a strong track record of translating innovative concepts into clinical applications and commercialized technologies. The lab’s research portfolio includes device development, computational modeling of ultrasound-tissue interactions, and the evaluation of therapeutic strategies in preclinical models. Many projects are carried out in collaboration with industry partners and have led to the creation of successful spin-off companies.

The successful candidate will contribute to projects focused on the design and evaluation of next-generation therapeutic ultrasound systems, with potential applications in the treatment of benign and malignant tumours and other disorders. They will join a dynamic, fast-paced research team developing a novel clinical therapeutic ultrasound platform. This position offers an excellent opportunity for academic publishing, mentorship of students and technical staff, and professional growth within a highly innovative environment.

Summary of Duties:

  • Perform computational simulations of ultrasound propagation and tissue interaction
  • Develop ultrasound therapy devices and imaging techniques for real-time monitoring
  • Design and conduct benchtop and preclinical experiments
  • Analyze experimental data, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and internal reports

Qualifications:

  • PhD in engineering (e.g., biomedical, mechanical, electrical), biophysics, physics, or a related field
  • Experience in ultrasound is an asset but not essential
  • Strong skills in experimental design, data analysis, signal processing, and computer programming/simulation
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Experience authoring peer-reviewed scientific publications

This role offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to clinically impactful biomedical research in an innovation-driven environment.

Interested individuals should email a cover letter and resume via Talcura.
