Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, this role oversees the operations of the Hospital’s compensation programs, processes and functions and related HR staff, and will be responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of competitive and equitable compensation practices that support the attraction and retention of employees. 

 

This role must work effectively with all areas in the Human Resources portfolio, regularly collaborating with the Manager, Benefits and Manager, Digital HR, as well as other HR team members and Hospital operational leaders in support of the organization, its employees and the larger HR Strategy.

Summary of Duties

  • Delevop and implement compensation strategies and programs that align with the Hospital’s goals and objectives.
  • Monitor competitive trends, conduct market research and analysis to ensure appropriate benchmarking, and conduct and participate in salary surveys.
  • Lead the job evaluation function, including conducting job evaluations, ensuring appropriate job classification and managing disputes related to this process, with support as needed.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the integrity of the Hospital’s compensation framework through the administration, support, training and delivery of compensation programs and processes.
  • Oversee the Hospital’s salary increase and pay for performance processes.
  • Ensure compliance and maintenance of Pay Equity and related legislation.
  • Provide strategic and operational insight for the development, implementation and maintenance of a new integrated finance and human resources information management system and associated processes, procedures and workflows.
  • Directly supervise the Total Rewards Specialist dedicated to the Compensation portfolio, and provide support to the work of the Hospital’s Compensation and Benefits Advisors.
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers and other Human Resources staff with complex and non-routine problems or inquiries regarding Hospital compensation.
  • Provide compensation expertise in support of union negotiations, and participate in grievance and arbitration processes as they relate to employee benefit entitlements.

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in compensation analysis, design, and administration.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to be a genuine team player in a very collaborative environment.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Management or other equivalent education.
  • CHRL designation an asset.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ of experience working in a supervisory role in compensation and benefits
  • Strong preference given to unionized and healthcare experience
  • Experience with HRIS and data management an asset
  • Experience in leading HR programs and projects, including change management responsibilities also an asset.
  • Strong ethical principles and an understanding of confidentiality
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and analyze problems and provide solutions
  • Demonstrated independence and comfort in taking initiative on resolving issues within scope of responsibility
