Our client, Canada's largest retailer, currently has an opening on their team for a UI/UX Designer. As a UX/UI Designer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the intuitive, accessible, and visually stunning interfaces for our diverse portfolio of digital products, including digital retail, loyalty, and our in-store digital solutions. You will be instrumental in enhancing customer satisfaction by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure associated with our products, ensuring a seamless and delightful experience for millions of users.

This role requires a blend of user-centric design thinking, strong visual design skills, and a functional understanding of technical implementation to translate complex user needs and business goals into elegant and effective solutions.



Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension

Location: Loblaw Downtown - Bathurst and Lakeshore, 3-4 days per week (3 days to start, needs to be prepared for potentially 4 days per week), can work 1 day a week at either North York or Brampton location


Key Responsibilities:


User Research & Insights: Plan, conduct, and synthesize user research activities (e.g., usability testing, interviews, surveys, A/B testing, ethnographic studies) to uncover deep user insights, behaviors, needs, and pain points across digital ecosystem.

• Strategic Design Thinking: Translate research findings, business requirements, and technical constraints into innovative, user-centered design solutions that align with our strategic objectives and elevate the overall customer experience.

• Information Architecture & Interaction Design: Design intuitive and efficient user flows, information architecture, and interaction patterns for complex digital products, ensuring seamless navigation and task completion.

Wireframing & Prototyping: Develop and clearly communicate design concepts through user flows, journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity, interactive prototypes to visualize and validate solutions.

• Visual Design & Branding: Define and apply visual design principles, typography, color palettes, iconography, and imagery to create aesthetically pleasing, on-brand, and accessible user interfaces.

• UI Component Development: Contribute to and evolve client's design system, creating reusable UI components and guidelines to ensure consistency, scalability, and efficiency across all digital touchpoints.

Data-Driven Iteration: Analyze qualitative and quantitative data (e.g., analytics, A/B test results, user feedback) to evaluate design effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and drive continuous iteration and optimization.

• Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Marketing, and other stakeholders throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from discovery to launch and beyond, ensuring design feasibility and successful implementation.

• Advocacy & Mentorship: Act as a strong advocate for the user within the organization, articulating design decisions and rationale effectively. Potentially mentor junior designers and contribute to a thriving design culture.


Must Haves:

  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience creating and implementing user-centered UX/UI design for complex digital products, preferably in e-commerce, retail, or large-scale consumer applications, preferably in both mobile and web view
  • Strong experience executing in Figma, ability to use previous Figma files
  • Collaborative personality, comfortable working with technical teams in an agile environment, working closely with development pods through design changes
  • Flexible work style, able to pivot between work across different products and divisions
  • Retail or eComm experience


Nice to Have:

Proven experience in user research - planning, conducting, and synthesizing various user research methods
