Overview

Out Health care client is undertaking an enterprise transition to Microsoft 365 (M365), including deployment of M365 desktop applications and phased retirement of legacy Microsoft Office versions.

As part of this initiative, they requires a senior technical resource to support the remediation of Office macros and add-ins to ensure business continuity during the transition.


Must Haves

  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Excel VBA/macros
  • Office add-ins (COM/VSTO)
  • Experience supporting:
  • Office upgrades or M365 transitions
  • Legacy Office compatibility remediation
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Ability to work independently in a complex enterprise environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with:
  • Power Platform (Power Automate / Power Apps)
  • Macro security and signing
  • Healthcare or regulated environments
  • AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot)


Objectives

The primary objective of this role is to:

  • Analyze and remediate business-critical Office macros and add-ins
  • Ensure compatibility with M365 desktop applications
  • Support a phased rollout approach with minimal user disruption
  • Provide technical expertise and hands-on remediation execution


Scope of Services

1. Technical Assessment & Analysis

The resource will:

  • Review and assess:
  • Excel VBA macros
  • Excel add-ins (.xla / .xlam)
  • COM/VSTO add-ins
  • Identify:
  • Compatibility issues with M365
  • 32/64-bit compatibility concerns
  • Deprecated or unsupported functionality
  • Assist with technical triage and complexity assessment

2. Remediation Execution (Primary Responsibility)

The resource will perform hands-on remediation activities including:

  • VBA code updates and refactoring
  • Macro troubleshooting and optimization
  • Add-in remediation and compatibility updates
  • Resolution of M365-related functionality issues

The expectation is that the resource will actively execute remediation work, not solely provide advisory guidance.


3. Security & Configuration Support

The resource will support:

  • Macro signing approaches
  • Trust Center and trusted location configurations
  • Alignment with enterprise security policies


4. Testing & Validation

The resource will:

  • Conduct technical validation and unit testing
  • Support UAT activities with business users
  • Troubleshoot and resolve remediation defects/issues


5. Documentation

The resource will document:

  • Remediation approach
  • Key code/configuration changes
  • Known limitations or dependencies
  • Testing outcomes

Out of Scope

The following are explicitly out of scope for this engagement:

  • MS Access remediation (separate workstream)
  • Enterprise-wide macro discovery/scanning
  • Program management or project coordination
  • Executive reporting and governance ownership
  • Business process redesign


Engagement Model

  • Staff augmentation role integrated into the UHN program team
  • Resource will work alongside:
  • Program Manager
  • Business/technical analysts
  • EUC deployment teams
  • Hybrid work model (Toronto-based preferred)
  • Some onsite work may be required
