Engineering Director to support client within investment management industry

Location: Toronto, ON

Hybrid: 4 days/week onsite

Hours: 37.5

• Define and drive architecture across multiple platforms and teams
• Act as a technical leader/influencer (no direct reports)
• Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, cloud-native projects
• Partner with senior engineers on design + technical decisions
• Stay hands-on with coding/design when needed
• Improve and scale engineering standards, DevOps practices, and delivery
• Drive system design incorporating AI/ML
• Operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
• Influence teams and stakeholders across the organization

• Director-level / Principal IC experience (senior technical leadership without managing people)
• Strong expertise in:
• Cloud-native architecture
• Distributed systems design
• Enterprise-level system design
• Proven ability to:
• Lead large-scale projects end-to-end
• Influence without authority
• Mentor senior engineers
• Hands-on technical capability (not just strategy)
• Experience improving engineering standards and DevOps maturity
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible)
• Comfortable working in:
• Ambiguity
• High ownership environments
• Fast-paced orgs

• Domain experience in:
• Private markets / credit investments (ideal)
• OR capital markets / investment banking
• OR fintech / broader financial services
• Experience with AI/ML systems and applications
• Background from:
• Fintech companies (e.g., Wealthsimple, Shopify, Questrade)
• Asset managers / institutional investors
• Experience driving enterprise-wide engineering transformation
