Our client is looking for a Director of Engineering to lead a cross-functional development team responsible for building and maintaining modern web and mobile applications. This leadership role is focused on driving execution, improving team performance, and delivering high-quality digital products - with an increasing emphasis on integrating AI-enhanced developer tools to improve efficiency and innovation.

You’ll oversee a team of 14 (primarily contractors), including software engineers, backend developers, mobile developers, and QA professionals. While the primary focus is on web application delivery, this role also involves collaboration across mobile platforms and backend systems, as well as working closely with internal stakeholders to bring technical strategy to life.

The engineering team is responsible for developing and maintaining a range of customer-facing and internal applications, including:

• Fan Engagement Platforms - Interactive web and mobile applications that allow fans to:
• Track game status, player performance, and live statistics.
• Access team content, schedules, and exclusive experiences.
• Internal Automation Tools - Development of platforms and chat-based solutions that automate internal use cases across:
• HR (e.g., onboarding assistants, policy lookup bots)
• Finance (e.g., reporting tools, approval workflows)
• Ticketing and Operations (e.g., automated support agents, analytics dashboards)

These applications aim to enhance user experience and streamline internal operations, increasingly leveraging automation, AI, and scalable modern architectures.

• Lead, mentor, and support a cross-functional engineering team across web, mobile, and QA.
• Drive the planning and execution of the technical roadmap in alignment with product goals.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of modern, scalable web applications.
• Partner with product and design teams to deliver high-performing user experiences.
• Introduce and support AI-assisted development tools (e.g., code assistants, automation tooling) to improve team productivity.
• Set and maintain high standards for code quality, testing, and reliability.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture with a focus on delivery and innovation.
• Manage and optimize a mostly contractor-based team, with an eye on scaling as needed.
• Provide technical oversight, including architecture and best practices reviews.

• 5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing full-stack or backend teams.
• Experience leading the development of web applications at scale.
• Solid understanding of modern development workflows and deployment practices.
• Exposure to AI-assisted developer tools or willingness to explore and implement them as part of the engineering process.
• Hands-on background with Typescript, Node.js, or Java (flexible on stack, but must have backend familiarity).
• Experience working with or managing mobile development efforts (iOS/Android).
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with product, design, and executive teams.
• Proven track record managing hybrid or distributed engineering teams.

• Familiarity with AI/ML product development or toolchains.
• Experience with cloud-native development (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Background in building media, entertainment, or fan-facing platforms.
• Comfortable managing vendor and contractor relationships.
