DCS Technician (ABB Programming)

Our client, a world leading manufacturer in the Food and Beverage Services industry, is looking for a DCS (Distributed Control System) Technician, to maintain, design and install, controller system software in our facilities. The DCS Tech will be responsible for analyzing system requirements, write and install custom programmable logic code, and provide operational support.


The ideal candidate will have knowledge of process industry and distributed control systems, system

architecture and communication. They will also have familiarity with P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and instrumentation diagrams.


Skills required for success in this role include:

• At least 5 years of experience working with and programming DCS, PLC and similar systems in an industrial setting

• Experience in programming ABB 800xA and Allen Bradley PLCs

• Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols, including Modbus and Ethernet/IP.

• In-depth knowledge of process control and instrumentation.

• Understanding of Advanced Process Control (APC), optimization techniques and loop tuning.

• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control logic diagrams.

• Experience in commissioning and start-up of equipment on DCS and PLC will be a plus


Critical Soft Skills/Experience:

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Previous experience in operations is a plus.


Education:

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in software engineering, instrumentation control, automation, electrical, process, engineering, or a similar field.


What a day in the role will look like:

• Maintain and troubleshoot various SCADA, DCS, and PLC systems including all Operational

Technology (OT) and communication systems to maintain optimal plant performance.

• Support control system, monitoring and managing access to critical system resources.

• Repair, overhaul, maintain, configure, select, and install controls and instrumentation equipment.

• Drive lifecycle management and planning for control system equipment to ensure long-term

• reliability.

• Partner with maintenance teams to complete scheduled activities and critical work with minimal

• downtime.

• Provide troubleshooting support to operations teams in resolving process control issues

• Administer Control Systems, Operations Technology and communication systems modifications

• requests under management of change procedure.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on DCS configurations, changes, and

• maintenance activities.

• Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HazOps/LOPA, and shutdown reviews to improve

• system safety and reliability.

• Participate in the development of engineering projects as part of a multidisciplinary team, and

• implementation within schedule and budget limits.

• Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and industry standards.
