School District 49 (Central Coast) is located in the spectacular Bella Coola Valley. As a qualified teacher, you would have the opportunity to live in a community enriched with Nuxalk First Nation culture and traditions, outdoor enthusiast activities and the peacefulness of rural community living. School District 49 (Central Cost) offers one of the highest salaries in the province, together with an allowance for moving expenses, rental subsidy and for this particular teaching position, a $10,000 incentive.

Sir Alexander Mackenzie School is a grade 8-12 school boasting small class sizes, an emerging trades program, an evolving learning commons/library, upper level sciences and math programs, a strong culture and language program and an excellent outdoor education program. Working in small class sizes, and using your progressive 21st Century teaching methods, sound curriculum development strategies and effective classroom management style, you will challenge our students towards reaching their full potential.

A temporary (1.0) High School Science and Math 8-12 teacher is required by School District #49 (Central Coast). The assignment will be at Sir Alexander Mackenzie School effective September 1, 2025 and ending June 30, 2026. Interested teachers who are certified or who are eligible to become certified by the BC Ministry of Education, Teacher Regulation Branch are invited to apply. Assignment may change depending on enrollment.

Required Experience:

  • Recent success as a Science classroom teacher;
  • Recent success as a Math classroom teacher;
  • Demonstrated ability to unpack the new curriculum (core and curricular competencies);
  • A commitment to implementing hands on learning in the science classroom;
  • Experience with design thinking (Maker-space, robotics, coding) and inquiry based learning;
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal World View and understanding;
  • Familiarity with In-classroom Learning Technologies and applications an asset;
  • Knowledge of MyEducation BC will be considered an asset;
  • A proven ability with assessment as and for learning strategies;
  • Successful experience integrating local Indigenous culture and traditions into curriculum, or
  • Familiarity with and understanding of local Indigenous culture and commitment to integrate it into the curriculum;
  • The ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies that can accommodate the learning needs of all learners;
  • A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and evidence of strong organization and classroom management skills;
  • A commitment to and successful experience working collaboratively in a team setting;
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the greater community;
  • facilitate instruction to students in peer helping, conflict resolution, leadership, social skills and life skills;
  • Be willing to submit to a local criminal record check.
This position may include other assigned duties.

The annual salary range for this position is $68,529 to $118,727 (which includes retention & recruitment allowance). Moving expenses up to $1,200 as well as rental subsidy up to $2,000 available to eligible candidates.

This position is eligible for a pre-employment signing bonus of $10,000. This is a taxable payment paid to you upon your commencement of employment with School District 49 (Central Coast). This one- time lump sum payment will be paid on or before your first pay cheque.
