Product Owner

The opportunity

The Product Owner, Core Trading & Compliance, is a key contributor in developing and delivering the vision and strategy for OTPP’s public market and traded OTC OMS/EMS capabilities in alignment with stakeholder objectives.

The Product Owner collaborates with stakeholders to understand their business needs, proactively identify opportunities to increase product value, define and prioritize solutions across competing stakeholder interests, effectively communicate roadmaps to stakeholders, set delivery priorities to the delivery team, and ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions to stakeholders. The product owner rallies the delivery team to achieve the vision and strategy of the product by defining the product roadmap, clearly articulating success criteria for new features, and by acting as the voice of the customer throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Who you will work with

  • Trading and Portfolio Management teams, including senior leaders, in the Investments Division supporting OTPPs’ investment strategies.

  • Agile delivery teams supporting the delivery of high quality, customer centric solutions.

  • Support teams focused on ensuring the capabilities of the Product team remain available, stable, and secure.

  • Teams from across the Enterprise Operations, Finance and Corporate Affairs Divisions who support the end-to-end Trade Lifecycle for public markets and OTC securities.

  • Vendors supporting the strategic solutions for public market and OTC OMS and EMS capabilities.

  • Market counterparties to stay abreast of current trends and capabilities to proactively bring value to the product.

What you will do

  • Actively collaborate with stakeholders to solicit candid product feedback, uncover business needs, and determine product priorities that align with organizational goals.

  • Effectively communicate product vision, strategy, and roadmap to stakeholders, including senior leaders.

  • Effective use of data and experience to support prioritization across multiple stakeholder levels balancing competing needs.

  • Ensure product has a well-defined roadmap, release strategy, and backlog of features & user stories.

  • Represents value from a stakeholder’s perspective within the delivery team by providing a clear vision, prioritization of feature delivery, and work for delivery team members.

  • Take ownership of the outcome from the perspective of stakeholders both in realizing the expected impact/outcome and in how users are adopting the solution.

  • Develop strategies and plans to enhance the partnership with business stakeholders in evaluating the benefits, costs and risks associated with solutions and services.

  • Facilitate product demos by delivery teams to gather real-time feedback from stakeholders and improve product outcomes.

  • Define and clearly communicate acceptance criteria based on business needs using product management techniques such as personas, story mapping, validated learning, product health models, OKRs, etc.

  • Champion continuous improvement within the delivery team supporting business and product goals.

  • Engage with external peers and industry participants to proactively identify market trends and new opportunities to increase the value of the product for stakeholders.

What you will need

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services, preferably with asset management or related software vendor in this sector.

  • Relevant university degree.

  • Experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager or similar role.

  • Demonstrated experience with building or evolving products in a complex, matrixed organization, effectively managing competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated capacity to inspire, influence and achieve alignment up, down and across the organization.

  • Experience with agile principles and values and applying these principles to working with or in cross-functional teams. I

  • Knowledge of financial services investment lifecycle workflows for multiple asset classes with focus on order management, and electronic/voice trading.

  • Knowledge of financial instrument, trade lifecycle end-to-end workflows and needs of investments stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of Charles River IMS or comparable OMS/EMS application supporting portfolio managers and traders.

  • Knowledge of product methodology and design principles; agile methodologies, values, and principles.

  • Familiarity with IT concepts, methodology and vocabulary is an asset.

  • Familiarity with applying emerging technology (e.g., AI) to enhance product value an asset.

  • Product mindset emphasizing exceptional outcomes for stakeholders.

  • Strong people skills, coupled with excellent communications and people-interaction skills, leading to co-creating collaborative solutions and opportunities for individual and organization growth.

  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, able to manage & deliver on demands from multiple stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage expectations and communicate appropriately with business stakeholders while making decisions about competing priorities.

  • Ability to understand, empathize and bridge multiple perspectives e.g., Senior Leadership and technical specialists.

  • Awareness and embodiment of corporate leadership principles & behaviors.

  • Ability to advise and invite alternate viewpoints in different stakeholders, including Senior Leadership.

  • Proven experience in exercising diplomacy, maturity, and judgment.
