Purpose of the role The HRC, Specialized Services provides consultation and support on complex, specialized employee relations matters to People Leaders and the HR Business Partner team. This position serves as a trusted SME for HR investigations and other specialized HR practices, with strong analytical and communication skills to drive more complex matters to support the business. This role will support the Lead, HR Specialized Services with various projects and initiatives related to the further development of HR Specialized Services structure and practices.

This is a full time hybrid role based at 30 International Blvd, M9W 5P3.

Core Responsibilities

HR Specialized Services

  • Deliver standardized services of specialized employee relations policies, processes and practices.
  • Work with the broader Shared Services team and Centers of Excellence in supporting programs and processes in the areas of Employee and Labour Relations.
  • In partnership with the ER/LR COE and HRBP teams, identify needs for awareness, education and training on employee relations topics.
  • Partner with the Talent, Leadership and Learning team to deliver coaching and training to HR and People Leaders on a range of labour and employee relations programs, initiatives and practices.
  • Support and conduct complex (high risk/sensitive) investigations.
  • Remain informed and monitor changes with ESA, MOL, legal environment and Human Rights and recommend revisions to ensure policies and programs meet regulatory requirements.
  • Research best practices and provide recommendations to support program & policy design.

HR Consulting Support

  • Provide day to day support to managers and employees to consult them in matters related to Employee and Labour relations, specifically related to HR Specialized Services.
  • Assist HRBP team, managers and employees to effectively apply HR policies and programs to ensure consistency in interpretation and application of ER/LR.
  • Acts as resource for people leaders on performance review process, up to and including managing terminations.
  • Provide advice and counsel on recruitment practices and conducting exit interviews
  • Leverage key metrics and reports to measure progress of HR Specialized Services.
  • Analyze insights and analytics to provide recommended changes to programs and policies related to HR Specialized Services.
  • Work in collaboration with the HR Business Partnership team to support initiatives that are strategically business driven.

HR Specialized Services Projects

  • Support the Manager, HR Operational Excellence and Lead, HR Specialized Services to build out policies, processes and systems functionality to support the enhancement of HR systems and Operating Model.
  • Participate by providing input from a HR needs perspective on effective ways to deliver HR Specialized Services.

Qualification and Skills

  • University or College diploma in Human Resources/Business Administration or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience at a HR Consultant level or similar role in the regions they will support, with experience in a unionized environment and familiarity with a HR Operations Shared Services model
  • Member of HRPA/BC HRMA is an asset
  • CHRP designation is an asset
  • Understanding of HR governance, legislation, and regulatory environment in order to identify issues, build programs and appropriately advise managers and employees
  • Demonstrated business acumen and consultative skills
  • Problem solving skills, ability to determine root cause of complex issues and arrive at appropriate solutions with consideration.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, facilitation skills
  • Strong investigation and conflict resolution skills - ability to manage complex, highly sensitive matters as appropriate
  • Excellent written and oral communication, influencing, client relationships, organizational, leadership, project and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills to effectively communicate complex legal issues and effect change.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with internal partners (ie COEs, HRBP Team) and stakeholders, such as people leaders

This is a hybrid role.

Hiring Range: 65,500 - 83,500

The hiring range has been established, however, the final salary recommendation will be determined based off the level of experience, education requirement, external market conditions and internal equity.

In this position, you will be eligible for Lifelabs annual bonus.
