KPMG’s Office of General Counsel (“OGC”) is excited to add a new contracting lawyer to its growing in-house legal team. OGC handles all legal matters impacting KPMG, including litigation and dispute resolution, contracting, regulatory and compliance, and governance and operations.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, high-caliber in-house legal team in a thriving and progressive international organization. This role is well-suited for a corporate/commercial lawyer who enjoys partnering closely with the business on complex commercial arrangements. As a member of the OGC, you will collaborate with a diverse, multidisciplinary group of professionals spanning a wide range of tenures and years of experience, who are deeply committed to your success and to fostering an environment where you can thrive.

What you will do
- Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Head of Contracting, you will work closely with KPMG’s business teams and internal stakeholders (including audit, advisory, tax, digital, procurement, IT security and risk management) to draft, review and negotiate a high volume of commercial contracts, including engagement letters, access letters, direct spend agreements, and master services agreements, while supporting national initiatives across KPMG Canada.
- Advise the business on key contractual terms with a view to collaboratively assess legal and business risk within the context of firm policy and market practice.
- Provide practical business-oriented legal advice and solutions on contracting matters, balancing risk mitigation with commercial objectives in fast-paced deal cycles.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and specialists regarding risk management, privacy, litigation, regulatory compliance, data security, and information technology issues.
- Actively participate in the efficient functioning of a high-performing in-house legal team by adopting digital tools and strategies, driving innovation, and contributing to process improvements.
Translate legal concepts into plain, actionable language.
Communicate confidently with senior stakeholders.
Ability to spot issues outside core expertise and triage intelligently (handle, escalate internally, or manage with oversight).
What you bring to the role
- You have a J.D. or LL. B and are licensed to practice law in any Canadian province.
- You have 3-5 years of corporate/commercial experience with a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department.
- IT contracting and/or M&A experience will be considered an asset.
- Exposure to contracts related to technology, data, and digital initiatives is considered an asset.
- Ability to propose creative, strategic and pragmatic solutions to resolve legal and business issues.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality, detail-oriented work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Team player with the ability to build trust and create effective working relationships across business lines, and with internal and external stakeholders, on legal and business matters.
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools used to support legal and business workflows (such as Microsoft Copilot) will be considered an asset.
- Exposure to contracts related to technology, data, and digital initiatives is considered an asset.
- Excellent drafting, communication and interpersonal skills.

KPMG Ontario Region Pay Range Information
The expected base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $140,000 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s location, skills & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program.
KPMG BC Region Pay Range Information
The expected base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $140,000 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s location, skills, & competencies, and unique qualifications. In addition, KPMG offers a comprehensive and competitive Total Rewards program.
