We are looking for a motivated and experienced Clerk to join our Commercial and Estate Litigation team and make a meaningful impact. We are seeking a full-time 18-month contract Commercial and Estate Litigation Law Clerk to join our Commercial and Estate Litigation team in our Toronto office. The successful candidate will be assisting in handling litigation matters related to Wills, Estates and Trusts, and Civil and Commercial Litigation.
What you will do
- Organizing and maintaining documents and productions on NetDocuments
- Preparing and filing documents with the Court, managing Court schedules
- Assembling Affidavits and Briefs, including Motion Records, Application Records and Appeal Books etc.
- Drafting and preparing simple legal documents including Pleadings, simple Affidavits, Affidavit of Documents, Notices,
- Confirmation Forms and correspondences
- Assisting with trial preparation, Trial Briefs and organizing exhibits
- Preparing Applications for probate
- Reviewing and coding documents within eDiscovery platform - Relativity
What you bring to the role
- In-office requirement: this is a hybrid role (in-office and work from home), however client and related deadlines take priority. The successful candidate will be required to be in the office on a weekly basis, and on an ad hoc basis for file assistance and support, with the option to work from home on days where appropriate.
- Must hold law Clerk certificate or paralegal license.
- Minimum of 4 years experience as a Law Clerk in Commercial and Estate litigation is required
- Sound knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Strong understanding of litigation steps
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and CaseLines/CaseCenter
- Knowledge of Estatably, eDiscovery, Relativity, DocuSign and NetDocuments would be an asset
- Ability to adhere to and manage the demands associated with strict Court deadlines
- Comprehensive knowledge of court procedures and steps in Estate and Commercial Litigation, with the ability to independently manage files from start to finish
- Strong organizational skills and attention to details
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure, deal with changing priorities and meet strict deadlines
- Capacity to work independently as well as in a team environment
