ROLE
Under the direction of the Manager, the Registered Technologist II, Cardiorespiratory Outpatient Clinic, Cardiorespiratory provides respiratory therapy services in the Cardiorespiratory Outpatient Clinic and hospital according to the mission, vision, values and standards of the HPHA and the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO). Responsible for participation in departmental, hospital and educational activities, which are supportive of professional and corporate objectives. Adheres to professional obligations as required by the CRTO.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)
- Graduate of accredited respiratory therapy program
- Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- Meets the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) Standards of Respiratory Therapy Practice
- Acts as an integral member of the interprofessional team in designated clinics and medical services
- Provides respiratory therapy services to patient care areas including the cardiosrespiratory outpatient clinic/inpatient units or departments, liaison with other team members, participation in daily interprofessional rounds, trouble-shooting, review of patient health records, therapeutic recommendations, documentation and follow-up
- Reviews cardio-respiratory orders for appropriateness and accuracy. Consults with physicians and/or nurses to solve problems and recommend changes. Initiates and maintains required records and documentation in the patient’s health records
- Maintains required certifications and performs authorized controlled and delegated medical acts as required
- Takes the Code white training course and maintains recertification. Will attend code whites and follow the directions of the Code White lead
- Maintains appropriate documentation related to all patients under his/her care
- Develops, reviews, updates, implements and evaluates educational material and programs for patients, family members and staff
- Provides education to patients, families and other health care workers
- Participates in the respiratory therapy student program in the role of preceptor
- Directs, supervises and evaluates activities and care provided by students
- Participates in the orientation of new respiratory therapy staff members
- Participates in quality improvement and risk management functions, including incident reporting in the HPHA’s risk management system
- Participates in the collection and documentation of workload measurement data
- Maintains professional competence through staff development and continuing education.
- Observes and promotes health and safety regulations of the department and the hospital, including adherence to all HPHA infection control procedures, including hand hygiene procedures and Personal Protective Equipment as required
- Participates in maintaining a clean, orderly, secure, and safe work environment
- Performs related work as requested

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION
- 2 years related experience working in an ambulatory care and inpatient environment preferred
