ROLE

The Registered Technologist II in ultrasound is responsible for effectively and efficiently performing a variety of procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative in the application of diagnostic ultrasound. They will work together with the Clinical Education Leader regarding the training of student ultrasound technologists.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

• Must be a graduate of an accredited ultrasound training program
• Must be a registered member of Sonography Canada, with a current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers preferred
• Registered with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario
• Current CPR certification

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

• Able to exercise courtesy and understanding in dealing with patients, medical personnel, visitors, other staff and members of other departments
• Demonstrated commitment to his/her ongoing professional development and continuing education (i.e. awareness of one’s own personal/professional education needs, and self-initiation of actions to meet those needs)
• Demonstrated ability to act quickly and effectively when dealing with emergencies with patients and staff
• Able to recognize and react appropriately, both mentally and physically, to emergent/critical situations, incidents and adverse reactions. This would encompass following Hospital/Departmental policies & procedures, maintaining a calm and professional composure and assuming a leadership role when required to support staff
• Able to react to unpredictable situations with critically/acutely ill patients having physical limitations, to ensure patient safety

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

• Training and experience in sub-specialties an asset
• Previous ultrasound experience preferred
