Data Engineer

What You’ll Do

As a Data Engineer, you will play an integral part of our data engineering team, responsible for supporting the development, maintenance, and optimization of our data infrastructure.

This role offers a unique opportunity to grow your technical skills and gain hands-on experience with modern data engineering tools and methodologies in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

• Assist in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines to process, clean, and integrate data from various sources.
• Implement data transformation and processing tasks using ETL tools and scripting languages.
• Support the maintenance and optimization of our data warehouse and data lakes.
• Monitor data pipeline performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
• Provide support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users and team members.

About the Role

This is an independent contractor position, and you will not be on Grand & Toy’s payroll. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who is looking for full-time working hours as an independent contractor.

Location

Our head office is located in Vaughan, Ontario.  

Education Requirements: Post-secondary education in Computer Science or Mathematics preferred.

Work Experience:

• Strong knowledge of ETL processes and orchestration tools (Dagster, Apache AirFlow, Prefect)
• Development experience with SQL and Python
• Experience with Git
• Experience with DBT is preferred
• Strong knowledge and experience with relational database design and development
• Possesses strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail and accuracy

Technology:  

• Strong knowledge of SQL, Python and Git
• Experience with cloud-based applications and environments. 
• Familiar with Data Warehousing concepts and design approaches.  

Information Systems: 

• Microsoft SQL Server and Snowflake
• BI Technologies such as Analysis Services, Reporting Services or similar
• Microsoft Office 365 BI Tools and integrations
