Job Description:
Sun Life is looking for someone to join our climate team to support the management and ongoing enhancement of our global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory and reporting in close collaboration with our Director, Climate Performance.
Our ideal candidate is passionate about climate change and has direct experience working in carbon accounting and emissions reporting. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders across the organization, external consultants and vendors to collect data, manage, and maintain our full inventory on a third-party ESG reporting platform. The individual will also support the creation of Climate Resilience Roadmaps to drive continued progress of the company’s broader climate resilience objectives, among other initiatives.

Our Climate & Environment Performance team acts as a central resource across the business, managing the development and reporting of our enterprise-wide GHG emissions, monitoring performance against targets, and support our global climate strategy initiatives. Supporting the team’s efforts is a network of sustainability champions from different business groups and regions in which we operate.
What will you do?
Work across the Climate & Environment team to enhance the organization’s GHG inventory:
Support data collection across the business and assess data quality of currently reported GHG emissions categories across scopes 1, 2, and some operational scope 3
Understand emerging emissions reporting requirements from regulatory bodies and standard-setters
Establish a strategic approach to reporting across relevant emissions categories with particular focus on operational and direct emissions
Engage with stakeholders and consultants to collect and collate GHG emissions data and metrics to support our ESG reporting obligations such as those through our annual Sustainability and Climate Reports, CDP, DJSI, TCFD, among others
Drive process improvements and automation of GHG emissions data collection and computation leveraging a third-party carbon accounting tool
Support the annual GHG emissions data assurance process
Support the data development and analysis for Climate Resilience Roadmaps with various business groups and functional teams
Advance the integration of GHG emission reduction goals into end-to-end business planning and performance processes to drive achievement of broader climate resilience goals
Create materials to support internal and external communications
Engage with external stakeholders and represent Sun Life at sustainability events to gather information and bring best practices to the organization
Lead and/or support various other climate-related initiatives as needed
What do you need to succeed ?
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a sustainability-related role. Financial services experience is a plus.
Proficiency in carbon accounting, specifically the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol
Experience with GHG emissions reporting and assurance processes
Knowledge of the climate change discipline including decarbonization strategies, GHG reduction targets, and ESG reporting and disclosures
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; detail and numbers oriented
Organized and self-motivated with the ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong stakeholder management and change management skills

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
