Job Description:

The Director, Financial Planning & Analytics, Investment Solutions (FP&A) is responsible for developing Financial and Strategic Plan projections for Individual Wealth as well as producing monthly forecasts, in addition to developing and supporting the analysis of financial strategies to meet and exceed our financial targets. The position also supports the quarterly business/financial review process.

Through ownership of the income forecast, business and strategic plan, you will drive results by working closely with senior management and other teams both internal and external to Investment Solutions Finance, perform a variety of advanced analyses and challenge the business results. The successful candidate will leverage learnings from actual results and own assumptions for projection, to provide insightful business analysis in forecasting future results and explaining actual results.

What will you do?

  • Develop Financial and Strategic Plan Drivers of Earnings (DOE) analysis for Individual Wealth for Plan and Forecast. This includes developing earnings/CSM/capital projections.
  • Own the process, assumptions, modeling, and communication of income results for the forecasting, business plan, and strategic plan for all investment solutions products
  • Partner closely with ALM in understanding and presenting the quarterly investment results
  • Partner closely with ALM, Canada Risk, valuation partners to monitor and propose actions to manage Individual Wealth income.
  • Support Individual Wealth strategic initiatives by reviewing/validating the financial projections/benefits associated with business cases.
  • Motivate and lead a high performing team.
  • Develop relationships with business partners in Valuation, Expense, SLGI Reporting, ALM, Pricing, Canadian Finance, and other teams to influence the forecast, plan, and strategic plan outcomes
  • Other adhoc analyses as required

What do you need to succeed?

  • FCIA or FSA designation, or CPA, with a minimum of 5 years insurance experience. Experience in the Wealth industry would be an asset.
  • Actuarial valuation and/or risk management experience is an asset
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong influence and negotiation skills
  • Experience with Axis software is an asset
  • Demonstrate a team first approach with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams/departments
  • Creative thinker with a drive for action
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong commitment to quality and meeting important deadlines
  • Strong track record with leading and developing teams and direct reports

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
