Job Description - Director, ALM Financial Reporting and Analytics

Job Summary

The Director, ALM Financial Reporting and Analytics, Sun Life international reports to the Head of International ALM. The role oversees all aspects of the ALM financial reporting under IFRS17 and daily hedging program, manages the market risk exposure against limits and ensures international ALM team’s compliance with Sun Life Enterprise and Sun Life Asia ALM policies and guidelines, facilitates the Sun Life International ALCO meeting, and leads the International ALM transformation. The role also supports the Head of International ALM to optimize the risk/return profiles of the Sun Life International investment portfolios, support Sun Life International business initiatives, and collaborate with other functions to achieve financial objectives.

What you will do:

• Manage all aspects of the ALM financial reporting and asset ACMA. Ensure in-depth understanding of investment and hedging results, analyze the drivers in CSM, earnings, capital, liquidity position, as well as market risk sensitivities.
• Systemize ALM production processes and develop greater ALM capabilities in the areas of hedging, portfolio analytics, forecasting, and risk management.
• Manage the financial risk metrics (such as EaR/CaR, liquidity ratio) against the risk limits.
• Facilitate quarterly BU ALCO meetings, ensure international ALM team is compliant with Sun Life Enterprise and Sun Life Asia ALM policies and guidelines.
• Lead International ALM Transformation, build a dedicated and self-sufficient service model for ALM production mandates while seeking opportunities to streamline/improve processes.
• Participate in other ALM initiatives such as financial results enhancements, execute application of the “Best Practice” ALM practice in HuBS to fully leverage the Global ALM Practice.

What you will need to succeed:

• Hands-on experiences in ALM financial reporting under IFRS17 (CGAAP knowledge is a plus) and LICAT and ability to manage various stakeholders.
• In-depth understanding of key drivers of investment results and how market movements impact investment earnings and capital
• Detail-oriented, well-organized, have a mindset of looking for improvements and driving effective controls around ALM production processes.
• Knowledge and experience in asset / liability modelling and principles, financial forecasting and investment income projection, experience in handling asset ACMAs
• Knowledge of HNW products, key financial risks in these products and how they impact the financials.
• Ability to manage and drive a team towards business objectives, work equally well independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to embrace changes and executive Sun Life change management practices.

Required Education and Experience:

• FSA and possess a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in senior ALM or actuarial roles, with hands-on experience in financial reporting.
• Proficient in Excel, Tableau, AXIS, knowledge on Pathwise would be a plus.
• Knowledge of accounting, capital markets, and investment would also be an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
