The Director of National Logistics is a critical leadership role with a mandate to transform and continuously evolve the logistics capability across our national footprint, supporting our ambition to become a national leader in laboratory services. This leader will champion change, guiding teams through transformation with clarity and purpose while building a high-performing, engaged national function.
The incumbent is responsible for leading the full national scope of operations for Dynacare, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives. They will drive the development and implementation of scalable synergies, standardized methodologies, innovative technologies, and robust business systems that enable sustainable growth and operational excellence. A strong focus on compliance and regulatory adherence will be essential, ensuring all logistics operations meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and governance.
As a people-focused leader, this role will inspire and develop teams, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The Director will also be a highly effective communicator, able to clearly articulate vision, influence stakeholders at all levels, and build strong cross-functional and external partnerships. How YOU will make a difference:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Provide input and drive strategies and operational plans that align with Dynacare’s mission, business objectives, and growth targets.
- Conduct analysis to evaluate operational efficiency, identify cost reduction or growth opportunities, and assess ROI of improvement initiatives.
Network Operations
- Establish and monitor comprehensive performance management frameworks across all sites, including service level agreements (SLAs), pick up / delivery time metrics, accuracy rates, and client satisfaction scores.
- Identify and resolve issues impacting operational performance, employee morale and proactively establish continuous improvement initiatives to ensure client satisfaction, quality enhancement, pick-up and delivery performance and specimen integrity.
- Conduct regular operational reviews with internal and external stakeholders to assess performance, address challenges, and identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with the senior leadership team in the logistics function to deploy route optimization and other efficiency initiatives to maximize productivity, minimize specimen transit times, and ensure compliance with clinical compliance requirements.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations such as TDC, CAP, transportation, health & safety, site-specific requirements.
- Manage third-party courier partnerships, transport vendors, and air freight providers with performance-based SLAs focused on specimen integrity and on-time delivery.
- Where applicable, ensure logistics operations are in full compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), maintain thorough understand of the contract provisions and operational requirements.
- Serve as management representative in collective bargaining negotiations and collaborate with HR and legal counsel in employee relations matters, including grievances, investigations, implementing new practices and other workplace matters.
- Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans for logistics operations across all sites. Conduct risk assessments to identify operational vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies to protect business operations and client relationships.
People / Team Leadership
- Lead a team of logistics operations managers and support team to develop their leadership and performance.
- Model and coach leadership behaviours that reinforce Dynacare’s values, operational excellence standards, employee wellness, and client-focused culture.
- Lead change initiatives that improve operational processes, systems or organizational structures by utilizing change management strategies that communicate vision, address resistance, build stakeholder engagement and adoption.
- Manage people resources for optimal workforce planning, recruitment, performance goal setting, training, scheduling, and effective workflow.
- Implement performance management systems that drive accountability, recognize excellence, and address performance gaps.
- Develop, implement, and monitor employee engagement initiatives in partnership with other leaders and HR to increase team performance and retention.
- Recognize team and employee achievement.
Client Services & Account Management
- Develop & implement comprehensive onboarding programs for new clients including specimen handling requirements, pickup scheduling, technology platform training, escalation processes.
- Assess competition, market opportunities, threats and share best practices to relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with business development on client business reviews, RFPs, and contract negotiations.
Sustainability & Compliance
- Develop and nurture a culture of safety, quality, innovation, adaptability, and fair treatment of all team members with consistency across Logistics network
- Embed environment and sustainability principles into all logistics practices.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, transportation, and health regulations.
- Develop, implement, and review control mechanisms and processes to confirm compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements to ensure mitigation of risks
What YOU bring to the role:
- College or University degree in Business or relevant certification
- Proven ability to excel at strategic thinking and planning as well as tactical implementation
- 7-10+ years of progressive management experience in customer and employee centric operations-based environments in complex, forward thinking and service-based organizations
- Advanced knowledge of logistics operations, processes. and methodologies
- Outstanding communication and leadership presence with ability to influence at all levels in the organization
- Must have a history of meeting and exceeding organizational targets for cost, quality and customer satisfaction
- A process and action-oriented mind-set and will have a track record of demonstrating superior business judgement as well as the fortitude, self-confidence, and people skills to contribute to key business decisions and to provide strong counsel to the Senior Leadership Team
- General knowledge of medical laboratory operations
- Experience working in unionized environments an asset
Working conditions:
- This role is fully on-site with local and national travel required 25-30%
Pay range: $121,600 - $152,000 annually
The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
