The Pre-Clinical Research Department at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is currently seeking two (2) casual Research Assistant 2 roles. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, all aspects of animal care, health monitoring and husbandry. Various duties include the provision of food, water and clean cages to animals, daily health and room checks, record keeping and general cleaning. Additional duties include obtaining samples for animal health and environmental monitoring tests, administering treatments to animals as requested by the Veterinarian and assisting researchers with various experimental procedures. Some assistance with cage wash duties may be required at times as well as some equipment maintenance duties. The Research Assistant 2 will work with a positive, respectful attitude as a team member to ensure the animals are healthy and happy and that researchers have a safe, pleasant, well-run facility in which to conduct experiments. The employee will support a workplace that embraces diversity, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

This position is located at 250 College Street.

The successful candidate must have a Diploma in Animal Care from an accredited College or University. You must also have, or be eligible for, CALAS registration (RLAT or RLATR). One year of research experience required, including or in addition to six months to one (1) year of experience working in an animal research setting as an animal health technician. Experience working with computer programs for word processing and database maintenance is required (e.g. Microsoft Office) as well as strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. The ability to work collaboratively with other team members and to work independently is essential. Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders and clients of diverse ethno-racial and ethno-cultural backgrounds ability is necessary. Bilingualism (English/French) or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
