The Complex Care and Recovery Program is seeking a full-time, temporary (until July 31, 2026) Recreation Therapist to work in the Forensic General Unit B (FGUC). Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will work with the inter-professional team to promote a holistic leisure lifestyle by contributing to the social, physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive needs of clients. You will develop, plan, facilitate, schedule, organize and implement various therapeutic recreation programs. This will be accomplished by conducting assessments, developing individual recreation plans, completing patient documentation, skill instruction, development of program goals and objectives, and evaluating a variety of individual and group recreation programs. You will be expected to contribute to program development, research, and educational activities of the program. You will also provide supervision to students. This position involves working seven days a week including evenings and weekends, depending on the needs and programming/activities of the clients. You will also support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. Your initial assignment will be located at 1001 Queen Street West.

The successful candidate will possess either a Degree/Diploma in Recreation/Recreation Therapy and a good working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices. Eligibility for Registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is required. You will have one year experience working as a Recreation Therapist in a mental health setting. Eligibility for registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is required. The incumbent must have the ability to facilitate groups, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to enable you to develop a professional therapeutic relationship with clients and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. You possess the ability to organize and supervise students. You will be reliable, cooperative and client-focused. You will be a motivated team player who shows initiative. Experience in working with individuals with severe mental illness and knowledge of the Ontario Review Board process is required. First Aid, CPR and Management of Aggressive Behaviour training is desirable. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
