The Integrated Day Treatment (IDT) Service within the Access to Care Program is seeking a full-time, temporary (up to 15 months) Counsellor/Therapist 2. The IDT is an interdisciplinary clinic serving complex clients with a primary diagnosis of a mood and/or anxiety disorder, in addition to a concurrent substance use disorder, trauma and/or borderline personality disorder. Services are offered both individually and in group settings. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, you will join an innovative, client-centered, recovery-focused interprofessional team.
As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide assessments, link clients to community supports, and deliver evidence-based psychological treatments, including cognitive and/or dialectical behavior therapy, for individuals with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, substance use disorder and trauma histories. Key responsibilities include facilitating group programming, managing referrals and triage processes, and offering individual support to clients attending the service.
You will utilize your expertise in behavioural observations, mental status and risk assessments, monitoring client responses to interventions, documentation, and effective communication with team members and primary care partners. You will also liaise with community health care providers within and outside CAMH.
The role includes contributing to program development, research, and educational activities, as well as supervising students. Clinical services may be required during the day, evenings, and weekends at the Queen Street site.
The successful candidate will possess a Masters degree in psychotherapy, psychology, social work or occupational therapy combined with a preferred minimum of 3 years of post-graduate, direct clinical (psychotherapy) experience in the provision of mental health and/or addictions treatment. As a registered member in good standing with a regulated health care discipline authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy, the candidate must show proof of registration with the respective College (e.g. College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO), College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO).
The candidate must have competence to perform psychotherapy and experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and motivational interviewing (MI), or other evidence-based modalities (depending on the needs of the program). Certificates/certification in evidence-based modalities are an asset. For Registered Psychotherapists with RP(Q) or RP Without Independent Practice status, Social Worker/Social Service Worker, Occupational Therapist and Psychology incumbents not yet in independent practice who are required to practice with clinical supervision, CAMH, in its discretion, will pre-arrange this formal supervisory relationship with the clinical program as a condition of hire, based on capacity.
Supervision of psychotherapy to students within the respective discipline is considered an asset for candidates who are qualified (or working toward qualifications) as a clinical supervisor. Candidates qualified to provide psychotherapy supervision of clinicians, or to the contribution to teaching of other health professionals within or across disciplines where permitted, is also an asset.
You possess demonstrated knowledge and experience in concurrent disorders, mood and anxiety, trauma and evidence-based treatments. Experience conducting mental status and risk assessments, managing complex cases involving mood, anxiety, and concurrent disorders, and providing care for clients with trauma histories is essential. Familiarity with CAMH and community services, as well as a strong understanding of emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention principles, and the recovery model, is critical.
Demonstrated ability to work with clients of diverse backgrounds is necessary. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to work within the interprofessional teams and to engage with clients, family members, and community care providers. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced interprofessional clinical environment are essential. Knowledge of community resources and discharge planning is required. You will also be able to meet deadlines, and have excellent computer skills and knowledge of technology to enhance communication and learning. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
