Commissioning Engineer

You will be providing on-site, full-time commissioning and validation support to a multinational pharmaceutical company that also manufactures vaccines for global distribution.  Our client has offices in over 50 countries with operations in several states across the United States.  As Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the coordination, management and implementation of the commissioning and validation activities of a large, bulk vaccine manufacturing facility. 

This position is based in Toronto, Ontario (Canada).

  • Work with project team members to oversee and direct the entire commissioning process on all types and sizes of projects.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders (Building Owners, Contractors, Architects, Engineers, and Management) on an ongoing basis.
  • Apply company commissioning process guides as well as industry standards to ensure project quality delivery.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with project team members and other stakeholders.
  • Perform design reviews and on-site commissioning of HVAC, plumbing, building automation systems, plant utilities, fire protection systems, HV and LV Power Distribution System, Emergency Generators Backup System, UPS system, Fire Alarm System, Security System and Communication Systems.
  • Write, review and approve URS, SOP, and Commissioning test plans and qualification protocols.
  • Validation of environmental rooms – walk-in coolers, walk-in incubators, walk-in freezers.
  • Prepare and deliver various commissioning reports and documentation such as progress reports, functional test procedures, meeting minutes, checklists, issues logs, and specifications.
  • Perform various inspections and functional tests.
  • Perform system deficiency, identification and resolution analyses.
  • Identify potential risks to project completion and develop potential solutions.
  • Identify potential risks during commissioning and develop potential solutions.
  • Plan, schedule, and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering/science with 5 years of commissioning & qualification experience.
  • A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience working in pharmaceutical manufacturing environments would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of CSA Standards and Ontario Building Code is preferred.
  • Familiarity with applicable Canada, US and worldwide regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of Validation using risk based approach (FMEA).
  • Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings and design documents.
  • Excellent technical and communication skills are a necessity.
