THE ROLE

Under the direction of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, the General Labourer operates industrial vacuum cleaners to remove dirt, heavy debris and other garbage, sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors and stairs as required. The incumbent washes windows, interior walls and ceilings. They pick up debris, empty trash and recycling containers, replace garbage bags as required and dispose of garbage/recycling. The General Labourer removes snow and ice from walkways and entrances, cut grass, tend grounds, cleans washrooms and replenishes supplies. They will also ensure maintenance of the facilities in accordance with established procedures, move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

High school diploma AND some experience in a related field

And

A valid Driver’s License

Experience

In cleaning
In minor maintenance and repairs

Knowledge

Of health and safety practices
Of general maintenance practices and techniques

Competencies, Skills and Abilities

Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership.

English Essential or French Essential / Bilingual an asset

This unionized position is open to all interested parties. Preference will be granted in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the UFCW local 175 bargaining unit at CFSG Ottawa-Gatineau.
