Communication Disorders Assistant

The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Qualifications:

-Graduate of a recognized community college Communicative Disorders Assistant graduate certificate program required

Skill, Ability and Experience:

-Experience in a Communication Disorders Department in a clinical / health care setting preferred
-Experience in adult neurogenic communication disorders and dysphagia preferred
-Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written required
-Proven organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task required
-Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team required
-Demonstrated commitment to Patient & Family Centered Care required
-Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary patient care team required
-Experience working with an electronic medical record preferred
-Basic level proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred
-French Language proficiency preferred

Principal Duties:

-Conducts speech, language, cognitive-communication and dysphagia therapy with patients as planned and managed by the Speech-Language Pathologist
-Records data relative to client performance and reports changes in client performance / status to the supervising speech-language pathologist
-Prepares clinical materials as required
-Maintains equipment as required
-Prepares appropriate communication aids
-Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives
-Completes continuing education requirements as necessary
-Other related duties as assigned
