Job Summary

The University Endowment Lands (UEL) is an unincorporated area located between the City of Vancouver and the University of British Columbia, with a population of approximately 4,000 residents. The UEL operates under the authority of the University Endowment Land Act, and the UEL Manager is appointed by the Minister under Section 15(1) of the UEL Act to administer the University Endowment Lands.

Reporting to the Director of Development Services, the Planning Technician works as a core member of the Development Services team, processing development permit applications and providing information, interpretation, and direction regarding UEL bylaws, policies and processes to developers and the general public.

Job Requirements:

  • University degree in Land Use Planning or equivalent
  • OR diploma from a recognized institution in architectural, building technology, planning or equivalent.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a local government setting.
  • Experience reviewing and making recommendations and/or decisions on development permit and/or land use applications.
  • Experience reviewing or developing land use bylaws.
  • Qualified as a member, in good standing, or with ability to become a member within six months, of a recognized BC planning, architectural or building association, such as Planning Institute of BC, Architectural Institute of British Columbia or Building Officials Association of BC.

PROVISOS

  • BC Driver’s license is required.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days a week at home subject to an approved telework agreement.
