AHS has an exciting opportunity for a Unit Manager at the Foothills Medical Center, with responsibility for clinical operations and programmatic leadership for the Emergency Department. In this position you will support a dynamic healthcare team, and a diverse patient population living and working in an urban center with a focus on the AHS Patient First and Our People strategies. As the Level 1 trauma center for Southern Alberta, the destination site for Cardiology and Neurosciences specialties you will have accountability for the delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family-focused care for the Emergency services and staff complement. Your strong communication and change management skills, as well as your human resource and budget management, are essential to being successful in this role. As part of the Calgary Zone leadership team, you will support and advance quality improvement, patient care, and staff engagement through strong working relationships, and in collaboration with colleagues, staff, and external stakeholders. Your role includes responsibility for recruitment and performance management of human resources in a unionized environment. Reporting to the Patient Care Manger, and in partnership with the Emergency Department leadership team, you will demonstrate consistency of practice, competence as a leader, as well as commitment to the team, and to the overall purpose and vision of the portfolio, and the organization.

Bachelor’s degree in a related health services field. Minimum three (3) years of recent experience in an operational leadership role. Five (5) years of recent experience with demonstrated clinical competence.

Progressive experience in a health care environment. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial, and physical resources within a complex environment. Demonstrate ability to be self-directed and highly motivated, strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as demonstrated effective problem solving. Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Proven ability to foster partnerships, achieve organizational goals and manage within a unionized environment. Discretion with sensitive situations, data, and personnel.

Master's level preparation in nursing or leadership would be an asset. Experience leading healthcare teams & providing innovative solutions to complex system issues. Proven coaching skills to support team members to reach their full potential. Ability to work hard and contribute to a dynamic, successful healthcare team. Management experience preferred. Strong knowledge of Emergency Department operations.
