Description
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the Specialty Outpatient Clinics at the Peter Lougheed Centre, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high‑quality, patient‑ and family‑centered care to a diverse outpatient population. Ambulatory Care is a fast‑paced, high‑acuity, and highly coordinated environment where nurses play a vital role in supporting safe and efficient patient flow. The role requires ongoing engagement, adaptability, strong organizational skills, and critical thinking to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting. Specialty clinics may include, but are not limited to, Respiratory, Hematology, Internal Medicine, Neuromuscular, General Surgery, and the Home Parenteral Therapy Program (HPTP). Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will provide nursing care across multiple outpatient clinic areas and demonstrate flexibility to support varying operational needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, education, and evaluation of care for patients and families, practicing to full scope in accordance with professional standards, medical directives, and organizational policies. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to triage and manage competing demands, and knowledge of medical protocols, medications, and outpatient clinic workflows. You will contribute to patient education, care coordination, and continuity of care. This position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and interprofessional team members.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Recent experience within the last 3 years in Acute Care or Ambulatory/Outpatient setting. Connect Care and Netcare access and experience. Current, up to date resume and evidence of interview preparation.
Recent experience (within the last 5 years) in one or more of the following specialty areas: Respiratory, Hematology, Internal Medicine, Neuromuscular, or General Surgery. CVC certification. Quality Improvement experience.
