What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting to the Project Manager, Fabrication, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting the offsite fabrication team in the successful planning and execution of the project. This position is a lead position, overseeing the work of the manufacturing specialist and drafting team.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Consult with engineering on constructability and provide manufacturing inputs to the design.
  • Coordinate and provide input into the design and detailing of fixturing and manufacturing aids.
  • Develop and evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Create fabrication outline by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout with collaboration from management and craft labour team.
  • Identify concerns as early as possible and, alert management of possible risks or problems with the projects.
  • Ensure that all work is in compliance with Aecon Red Book Safety and Customer and CODE requirements.
  • Ability to interpret Aecon and customer drawings, policy, codes and procedures and create a gap analysis of findings.
  • Create and format detailed work packages for fabrication.
  • Develop Bills of Materials and create detailed material requisitions and specifications.
  • Generate fabrication procedures, forms, and specifications.
  • Perform Fabrication drawing reviews.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • 3-5 years of manufacturing/fabrication or related industry experience.
  • Engineering Degree or technical certificate in a related engineering technician field.
  • Structural/Piping fabrication, welding, machining, assembly general knowledge
  • Code and quality systems knowledge (ASME Section III, CSA N285, CSA N299)
  • Experience in process mapping and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Experience with CAD layouts.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills; such as, MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio)
  • Proficiency with the Autodesk Suite.
