What Is the Opportunity?
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced International Tax Specialist to join Aecon. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Global function, including tax operations and compliance activities. As the International Tax Specilist, you will be responsible for coordinating tax operations and compliance activities for the organization, ensuring that we are compliant with all applicable tax laws, regulations, and standards. This includes the preparation of the International corporate tax compliance, and monthly, quarterly and year-end tax provisions.


What You'll Do Here:

  • Ensure compliance with all international tax legislation and regulations and ensure that all tax filings and remittances are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and update surplus accounts for all of Aecons international operations to support repatriation strategies, cross border documentation and assist in the preparation of the T106, T1134 and transfer pricing analysis to support Aecons contemporaneous documentation requirements.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Global Minimum Tax Requirements
  • Assist in International corporate, tax audits to ensure auditors are given any necessary information and documents and present the companys position in a complete and accurate manner.
  • Prepare tax account reconciliations.
  • Advise on international corporate and sales tax filings and remittances for all Aecon companies in Global Projects
  • Maintain International tax rates in OneSource mapping file.
  • Liaise with business units to gather the necessary documentation to support corporate tax filings and respond to ad hoc queries.
  • Assist in the collection of tax data to support international income tax filings.
  • Maintain listing of required international corporate and sales tax filings and registrations to ensure compliance requirements are met.
  • Assist in the setup of new international corporate structures.
  • Assist in the due diligence process of international acquisitions on an ad hoc basis.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends/developments and regulatory changes to effectively respond to tax questions and issues from the business as well as help them to mitigate tax risks.
  • Work closely with legal to execute a variety of special projects/assignments to enhance the tax teams procedures and systems.
  • Opportunity to develop and distribute financial reports to help the business grow.

  • Assisting in the monthly, quarterly and year-end tax provisions
  • Responsible for coordinating and in the preparation of the international and domestic corporate income tax returns including preparation of tax working papers.
  • Liaise with business units to gather the necessary documentation to support corporate tax filings and respond to ad hoc queries.
  • Manage and maintain the tax registrations for all the Aecon group of companies.
  • Reconcile income tax payable accounts on a quarterly basis and prepare monthly income tax instalment payments.
  • Assist in responding to queries from government tax authorities and managing outside tax consultants.
  • Keep current with respect to changes in tax statutes and regulations; and conduct research to ensure compliance with applicable international tax laws.
  • Advice regarding best practices and implement process improvements.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

  • 5 to 6 year of relevant work experience in International Tax
  • Bachelors degree preferably in Business, Finance or Accounting and or Masters Degree in Tax
  • Completion of a professional designation (CPA or CFA preferred)
  • Working towards a tax in-depth certification
  • Strong knowledge and exposure to various international tax laws
  • Experience in managing relationship with International Tax authorities and external advisors.
  • Experience in managing tax compliance and reporting processes.
  • Experience working with SAP preferred
  • Detail oriented with a demonstrated ability for accuracy.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of organizational structures and functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of changing tax laws and requirements for ensuring the business remains tax efficient.
  • Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
