Description
The Associate, Sustainable Investing (Transition Economy Design) is an entrepreneurial and quantitatively talented professional who is passionate about both the potential positive impact and opportunity provided by investing wisely in the net-zero transition. They will be joining one of Canada’s leading Sustainable Investing teams at a critical time of growth and will be responsible for navigating a rapidly changing knowledge environment, and convening across the organization, to co-create tactical, decision-useful, and quantitative solutions to scale Ontario Teacher’s approach to sustainable investing as a key value driver for the fund.
The SI team has seventeen members and works across the organization to ensure positive ESG impact and leverage ESG themes to drive value for the fund.
The Associate will report to the Director, Transition Economy Design, who is responsible for supporting the SI team in navigating, convening, and scaling Ontario Teachers’ approach to sustainable investing topics.
Given the cross-departmental nature of the Sustainable Investing team, the Associate will interact on a frequent basis with colleagues from various divisions and teams across the fund.
Work with senior leadership to support the Sustainable Investing team in the development of key near-term strategy, reporting, and convening deliverables - schedule and conduct internal stakeholder meetings, synthesize key strategic insights, prepare PowerPoint presentations for executive audiences.
Work directly with the Director to conduct a strategic diagnostic of Ontario Teacher’s sustainable investment practices and opportunities - conduct blue-sky strategic thinking, propose specific analytical strategies and priorities, manage multiple important internal relationships with Investment teams.
Support investment teams in their development of sustainable investment theses and quantitative analyses which drive value for the fund - participate in conceptual problem solving and analysis design, source, manage, and manipulate large datasets, participate in building quantitative tools for extracting insights from data.
Determine materiality of data sources and choice of quantitative approach for level of conviction behind transition-themed investment theses.
Present research and analysis to Investment professionals to influence decision-making on sustainable investing.
What you’ll need
Minimum 2 years related experience such as responsible investing, sustainability consulting, investment analyst with ESG focus, etc.
Minimum Bachelor; Masters degree in engineering, environment, climate science, applied mathematics, finance or other relevant field an asset
Completion of the CFA (or underway) would be an asset
Knowledge of and passion for sustainable investing
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (both oral and written) - particularly an ability to understand and communicate technical material to investment professionals
Familiarity with investment-related concepts, such as capital markets and fundamental company analysis
Quantitative modelling skillset (excel, python, matlab, etc.) an asset.
Works well independently or as a member of a team
Highly adaptable, flexible and comfortable with ambiguity
