F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 800 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic, athletic performance, outdoor/experiential, trades, and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming, cultural diversity, and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.
Located in the capital city of Whitehorse, Yukon, F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. Assignment - FLEX Shared Resource Program (Far-Reaching Life Experiences/Life Skills)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent;
- Training and/or post graduate coursework related to Special Education;
- Experience and training related to students demonstrating developmental trauma, neurodiversity, and/or adverse childhood experiences;
- Experience with planning and implementing individualized and inclusive programming for students who have diverse learning, behavioural or special educational needs;
- Experience as an intermediate/high school classroom teacher in a cross-cultural setting;
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluating learning plans such as Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Student Learning Plans (SLPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and Safety Plans (SPs).
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Demonstrated ability to include and support Educational Assistants in the implementation of Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Support Plans and Safety Plans;
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills for working with educational assistants, students, parents, staff members, consultants, and related agencies;
- Ability to use a range of technology, including assistive technology;
- Knowledge of literacy and numeracy strategies to help students progress and fill in learning gaps;
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support, neuro-sequential model in education, brain-based learning, restorative practices, trauma sensitive classrooms, and formative and summative assessment to guide student learning;
- Ability to provide differentiated, individual instruction at multiple grade levels;
- Ability integrating experiential learning activities into the curriculum;
- Ability to work as part of a larger school team and central administration building to support the philosophy, values and beliefs of the Shared Resource program and the school;
- A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations students and a culturally diverse student population.
JOB REQUIREMENT
- Class 4 Driver’s License or willingness to obtain;
- Current First Aid Training and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training certification or willingness to obtain.
