F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 800 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic, athletic performance, outdoor/experiential, trades, and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming, cultural diversity, and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.

Located in the capital city of Whitehorse, Yukon, F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. Our school continuously works to honour First Nations ways of knowing, doing, and being, and we value our deep connections with families and the broader community.

Start Date: August 20, 2026

End Date: June 12, 2027

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent
  • Post Graduate coursework in Special Education
  • Experience within the last three years teaching groups of disengaged youth, who have fallen behind on their graduation pathway
  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership, case management and instruction as part of a multi-disciplinary school-based team regarding programing for students with diverse learning needs and behavioural challenges
  • Experience developing, implementing, and revising Individual Education Plans, Student Learning Plans, Behaviour Support Plans, and Safety Plans, to maximize student potential
  • Experience using First Nations ways of Knowing, Doing and Being to support and instruct students academically, socially, and behaviourally

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Training and/or experience in trauma responsive educational practices would be an asset
  • Experience teaching or providing culturally and developmentally responsive approaches for positive behaviour
  • Experience within the last three years identifying and implementing targeted strength-based literacy and numeracy interventions in an elementary or secondary school setting
  • Experience working with English language learners would be an asset
  • Experience with rural/remote populations
  • Level B assessment certification
  • Experience with transition planning and supporting students with exceptional needs

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process
  • Yukon First Nations 101 , to be completed at your first opportunity.
