F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 780 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic, athletic performance, outdoor/experiential, trades, and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming, cultural diversity, and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.
Located in the capital city of Whitehorse, Yukon, F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
- Additional post-secondary coursework in Special Education;
- Experience within the last three years identifying and implementing targeted strength-based literacy and numeracy interventions
- Experience providing leadership, case management and instruction as part of a multi-disciplinary school-based team regarding programing for students with diverse learning needs and behavioural challenges;
- Experience developing, implementing, and revising Individual Education Plans, Student Learning Plans, Behaviour Support Plans, and Safety Plans, to maximize student potential;
- Experience using First Nations ways of Knowing, Doing and Being to support and instruct students academically, socially, and behaviourally;
- Experience teaching a program-based classroom with students who have significant needs required for some of these multiple LAT postings; considered an asset for the other postings
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Experience with transition planning and supporting students with exceptional needs.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, consultants, and community agencies;
- Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population.
- Training and/or experience in trauma-responsive educational practices
- Experience teaching or providing culturally and developmentally responsive approaches for positive behaviour
- Experience with rural/remote populations an asset
- Level B assessment certification may be considered an asset
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
