We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Golden Horn Elementary School team. GHES is located within the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council. We value experiential/place based learning on the land and inside the classroom. We strive to use the best research-driven teaching methods that foster learner agency and student-led learning experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Experience teaching at the primary grade levels in a classroom, including literacy and numeracy.
  • Experience teaching structured literacy;
  • Experience infusing First Peoples ways of Knowing, Doing and Being into the curriculum to support and instruct students
  • Experience in the design and implementation of differentiated programming for diverse needs in the classroom
  • Experience utilizing universal design for learning in the classroom;
  • Experience and/or willingness to incorporate the outdoors into the curriculum is an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Willingness and ability to work as a member of a team and to participate in the total school programs and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting relationships and work with students, parents, staff members, consultants, and administrators.
  • Ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students with a range of learning styles and abilities and to meet the needs of students with Individual Educational Plans.
  • Effective and respectful classroom management based on a developmental understanding of children’s strengths and needs.
  • A strong commitment to the practice of differentiated instruction and assessment within the classroom to meet student needs.
  • Strong commitment to and proven dedication to support the philosophy, values and beliefs of the school.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
