We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Porter Creek Secondary School team. PCSS is a comprehensive school with a strong reputation for hands-on programming, First Nations ways of knowing, doing and being, and connection to the community. PCSS displays excellence in Athletics, Arts and Academics. This position provides the opportunity to join a dynamic, inclusive, staff team dedicated to student success. PCSS staff understand the significance of working with families, our community and First Nations to deliver on the promise of an education based on care. This 1.0 FTE teaching role will involve teaching out Grade 8 Transitions program, English, Socials and Health and Career Education 8.

End Date: June 11, 2027

Assignment: Grade 8, English, Social Studies and Health and Career Education

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Experience teaching English and Social Studies at the Secondary level
  • Experience writing and adapting student learning plans
  • Experience working with a diverse team to case manage and program for students
  • Experience programming for students with diverse learning needs and behavioural challenges within a classroom setting
  • Experience with First Nations Ways of knowing, Doing and Being to support and instruct students academically, socially and behaviourally
  • Special Education coursework is considered an asset

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Superior classroom management, planning and organizational skills;
  • Willingness and ability to teach all relevant Learning Standards and foster an experiential learning philosophy;
  • Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning abilities while incorporating cultural values and traditions into curricular components;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with students, parents, administration and other staff members;
  • Ability to differentiate instruction using current assessment for learning pedagogy and practice;
  • Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team to promote and work collaboratively to support school initiatives and the total school program;
  • A knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
