F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 780 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic, athletic performance, outdoor/experiential, trades, and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming, cultural diversity, and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.
Located in the capital city of Whitehorse, Yukon, F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience: Bachelor of Education or equivalent.
- Undergraduate degree in English, or teaching qualifications in Sr. English;
- Recent experience teaching students with a wide range of abilities;
- Recent experience adapting curriculum and assessment to meet a wide range of abilities;
- Recent experience teaching classroom Senior English at the secondary level
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Superior classroom management, curricular and lesson planning skills, with demonstrable skills in student engagement;
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate and promote First Nations principles of learning and First Nations literature in the classroom;
- Demonstrated ability to foster experiential learning within a traditionally academic course
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with students, parents, staff members, and administration;
- Demonstrated ability to adapt curriculum to meet a wide range of learning styles and abilities, including for students with IEPs;
- Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team to promote and work collaboratively to support school initiatives and the total school program;
- Ability and interest in working to support the whole school culture and environment beyond the classroom (eg. Sports, experiential opportunities, clubs)
- Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population, with the ability to incorporate and promote First Nations principles of learning in the classroom
- Experience building literacy skills in students;
- Experience incorporating a wide range of formative and summative assessment tools; teaching a standards-based / competency based curriculum; and effectively differentiating instruction and assessment in a traditionally academic course
- Experience incorporating and utilizing technology
