F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate Education Assistant to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 800 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic, athletic performance, outdoor/experiential, trades, and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming, cultural diversity, and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.

Located in the capital city of Whitehorse, Yukon, F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. Our school continuously works to honour First Nations ways of knowing, doing, and being, and we value our deep connections with families and the broader community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
  • Experience working with youth;
  • Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset
  • Experience with senior math tutoring or coaching considered an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;

  • Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;

  • Ability to work as a member of a team;

  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments;

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Willingness to engage in extensive professional development to support students with complex needs
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Experience collaborating with teachers and staff to successfully implement a student’s individualized education program considered an asset;
  • Experience working with high school age youth considered an asset

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provide before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Standard First Aid; to be provided within 3 months of the first day of employment
  • Completion of the Education Assistant YG Learn course
