QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent from a recognized institution and Valid Yukon Teacher Certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Specialization or coursework in Special Education or Inclusive Education.
  • Teaching experience in an elementary classroom with students performing at wide ranging levels of achievement and diverse learning styles including multiple students with Individual Education Plans, Student Learning Plans and Behaviour Support Plans.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Student Learning Plans (SLPs), Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), and Safety Plans.
  • Familiarity with the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME) and Ready to Learn School practices.
  • Training and experience in trauma-responsive educational practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to create inclusive, accessible, and flexible learning environments that support diverse student needs.
  • Training in Orton-Gillingham, Barton Reading & Spelling System, Wilson Reading System, or Reading Rev programs is an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • A knowledge of & sensitivity to the culture & aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon & a culturally diverse student population
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting relationships when working with students, families, staff members and administrators
  • Ability to include and support Educational Assistants in the implementation of Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Support Plans and Safety Plans
  • Strong classroom management that includes implementation of social/emotional pedagogy
  • A strong commitment to the practice of differentiated instruction and assessment within classroom programming designed to meet individual student needs
  • Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a wide range of learning abilities and styles and to meet the needs of students with Individual Education Plans
  • Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team and to promote, support and work collaboratively with all staff on school initiatives within the total school program
  • Willingness to support the philosophy, values and beliefs of the school and to support the school growth plan
  • Ability to use a range of technology, including assistive technology
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support, preventative practices, resiliency, the restorative justice framework, and trauma-informed care to help guide student learning
